African Safari – Serengeti, Tanzania and Rwanda

An African Safari is most likely on every bucket list. If you are like me, you don’t know where to start and how to plan your safari. Here are some practical tips on how to plan your Safari.

First you must select which countries you would like to visit, and if you are taking your kids, you’d want to search for kid friendly safari locations. Many people will tag on a resort stay towards the end of their trip (we decided to skip the resort part).

Decide your budget and time when you can visit. You want to plan at least 3 months in advance otherwise you may not get the best reservations.

Next, search online for different locations. On our trip, we visited the following locations:

  1. Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda to see the Gorillas in the wild
  2. Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
  3. Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania

A lot of folks recommended Africa Travel Resource to us. We recommend calling at least a few travel agencies to see availability and price quotes. A quick online search will yield you some other agencies.

For Rwanda, we used a local agency called Rwanda Eco Tours.

The agency will customize the itinerary according to your preference and will generally require advance payment. We were a bit doubtful but both the agencies above are trustable.

Rwanda was breathtaking and beautiful, the time spent with the Gorillas is one of the best life time memories, we’ll share more in following articles.

Serengeti is equally amazing, we planned our trip around the migration of wildebeest which is an amazing spectacle that we were lucky to witness.

Ngorongoro crater is a self contained ecosystem in a volcanic crater where you can see lions, zebras, wildebeest, rhinos, hippos etc. all within a day.
